IDEA CONCEPT

A special new print magazine with insights into the world of independent opticians and the associated ideas, history and projects, starting from innovative and creative eyewear, with products of superb quality and craftsmanship, to the professionals who have embraced this philosophy in their optician stores, and those who take an ethical and sustainable approach to work and life.

Leveraging the appeal that stems from creativity, inventiveness, materials research and design, and that highlights the uniqueness of the eyewear and the independent optician stores, the aim is to support a common approach to diversify and explore new avenues, striving to engage and expand the “independent” value community (opticians, optometrists, companies, designers, personalities and enthusiasts).

THE STYLE

INDI-E magazine has a recognisable and consistent style. It addresses the community using the language of “independents”, explaining the history and philosophy behind every creative and business project with transparency, in a bid to shine a light on their inherent originality, beauty and quality. 

Our journalists seek out new ideas and emerging companies, revealing the secrets of the most successful designers and of promising newcomers, and explaining how professional opticians present these superbly crafted and highly original creations to clients in their stores.

BEAUTY

Like a quality product that is beautiful to behold and leaf through, the magazine pursues and showcases beauty that stirs the emotions. The publication devotes great attention to design in order to enhance the content and images featured, starting from the front cover. Attention also extends to the choice of materials, with premium paper that also has a tactile quality, and first-rate, environmentally sustainable printing. A magazine to keep and display in your optician store or design studio.

THE INSPIRATION

The name of the magazine, INDI-E, is a play on words combining INDI, the Italian abbreviation for Independent, and the letter E which is the first letter of the word Eyewear.

The inspiration comes from INDIE, the independent music movement that emerged in the ’80s and is still going strong, which embraces many different types of artists and musical genres, not only mainstream, who share the same idea of cross-fertilisation, creative freedom and the will to dare. In eyewear this translates into materials research and innovative design, which excite and stimulate those who are looking for a strong, unique identity that is anything but ordinary. A world that deserves ample communication space in optician stores.

Because we have many years’ experience in this sector, we know optometrists well and we are accustomed to speaking their language when imparting information, which is useful for conveying news in the simplest and most effective way. Ottica Italiana has over 60 years’ publishing experience in the sector, with the added value of being able to physically deliver the magazine, and therefore this segment, directly to independent optician stores, thanks to our superior penetration of optician stores compared to the competition.

Our Optoservice publishing company is a member of the most important and representative professional organisation for independent opticians: Federottica.

INDI-E magazine is published twice-yearly, with issues released to coincide with the two leading eyewear shows, Mido and Silmo. The magazine is aimed primarily at the Italian market and distributed in print version to a select number of optician stores (4,000). A digital version distributed through a mailing list.

To improve quality standards and attention to the environment, INDI-E is printed using recycled materials with a low environmental impact, or sourced from forests managed in compliance with the principles of responsible forest management established by the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC was founded by a group of environmentalist organisations, representatives of indigenous peoples, international development corporations, forestry producers, workers, woodworking industries, forestry technicians and scientists to create an alternative to deforestation and forest degradation.
